Substance Abuse Recovery

My Training

I have extensive experience working with patients who struggle with substance use. During my training, I worked at a LGBTQIA+ community mental health clinic that provided services to those in recovery and to those who were actively using. Additionally, I completed my pre-doctoral internship at a chemical dependency agency, where I worked as a member of the Intensive Outpatient Program team treating adolescents and adults struggling with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.

What to Expect

During our consultation call, we will assess if private practice or a higher level of care is appropriate to meet your needs. While recovery maintenance may not be your primary reason for seeking therapy, I will hold it in mind as part of your experience, taking into account how it continues to impact you directly or indirectly. Your relationship with your recovery is unique and may shift and take different forms throughout your life. I understand that sometimes you may be actively wrestling with the pull to that old, dark place, and at other times, substance issues may recede into the background.

I’m supportive of both harm reduction and abstinence-based models to recovery. There are benefits and limitations to both approaches. I do not require patients to be part of any support groups or 12 Step programs, but I think these can be a great adjunct to therapy and can provide invaluable community and support.
